Youngstown, Ohio - A professor from Youngstown State University, Dan Van Dussen, recently spoke to the Ohio House Children and Human Services Committee about the importance of having a skilled workforce to care for Ohio's aging population. Van Dussen, who teaches health and rehabilitation science, emphasized the achievements of the Ohio Scholars in Aging Program. This program, a joint effort by the Ohio Department of Aging and the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education, equips students from various academic fields with practical experience, professional growth opportunities, and policy involvement for careers in aging-related sectors.
Van Dussen highlighted the program's effectiveness in keeping talent within Ohio, ensuring that graduates stay to support the state's aging services. His testimony aimed to secure ongoing funding and backing for initiatives that develop a competent and committed workforce to meet the needs of older Ohioans.
