Research Interests/Expertise

My research interests are aligned with two primary lines of inquiry: (1) community services for older adults and (2) aging attitudes among college students. Recently, I have utilized the ‘Preferences for Everyday Living Inventory (PELI)’ to collect new data at adult day services (ADS) centers in Ohio. The goal was to gain insights into the care preferences of older adults in ADS to promote person-centered care.

Teaching Interests/Expertise

My research on community services for older adults may result in students’ better understanding of the need for older-adult services and developing an interest in working in the field of aging. Meanwhile, research on aging attitudes has allowed me to address ageism in class and educate students on the issues surrounding aging, aiming to attract and equip them to better serve older adults and prepare for their future selves.

Service/Practice Interests/Expertise

I have conducted PELI interviews in two ADS centers in Ohio and would like to partner with other ADS centers in Ohio to help the facilities understand their clients’ care preferences. This will enable us to provide person-centered care and improve the quality of care in the centers.

Skills and Areas of Expertise That Could Be Helpful to Potential Aging-related Partners.

I have conducted research in adult day services (ADS) centers since 2011. My findings from my research revealed what staff believed as good care conflicted with ADS attendees’ preference and led to inappropriate interactions and mistreatment at centers. I am good at conducting interviews with older adults in the long-term care facilities and would like to use the PELI at more ADS centers in Ohio to help staff better understand individuals’ care preferences in order to provide concordant care and person-centered care to improve the quality of life, care, and services for older adults in Ohio.
