2018 Practitioner of the Year
Judge Robert N. Rusu, Jr.
Mahoning County Probate Court
Judge Rusu has had a positive impact on many seniors and future gerontologists through his work as a Probate Judge of the Mahoning County Probate Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas. This includes guardianship but also with helping families through the Probate process and working with, rather than in an adversarial role, attorneys and country personnel. Judge Rusu has partnered with Youngstown State University Gerontology and Long Term Care Administration programs to involve students in an adult guardianship project, embedded within a “Later Life Issues” course. The project, which aims to help ensure the completion of annual guardian reports for persons under guardianship, has grown over the last three years. Furthermore, Judge Rusu regularly serves as a guest speaker in classes and is involved within his community, attending the Mahoning Adult Protective Association and the Mahoning County Sherriff’s Senior Services Unit Advisory Council.
