Paper Title: “Person-Centered Care: Sociology of Dementia”
This paper advocates for managing the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia through a person-centered approach to reach and maintain optimal levels of functioning and quality of life for the residents, rather than through the use of pharmacological interventions or various forms of restraint. While the benefits of person-centered care are undeniable, the long term care industry faces many barriers to implementation, especially regarding financial and logistical concerns.
